‘Paper Machine’ takes the form of a cannon, yet resembles origami crafted from paper. This contrast between what looks like an object of
destruction and a fragile medium underscores the vulnerability of human-made borders, despite attempts to fortify them. The folded
paper map evokes the precarious nature of administrative documents that govern access, highlighting territorial claims and the conflicts
they provoke. Kallat often emphasises the arbitrariness of borders, while the fragility of paper suggests the impermanence of such
authoritative constructs. The work invites reflection on how power is both asserted and contested.
