Vortex
2022
Electric wires and metal

The tense borders intersecting rivers that flow between them form Vortex. The wall drawing has been made using electrical cables, a familiar material that is symbolic of human contact and the transmission of energy and ideas. In this work, the artist began by tracing borders between countries that are in dispute over the sharing of their common river waters. Groups of these outlines of manmade political borders were then repurposed and rearranged, with the lines coming together to form a thumbprint. The imprint serves as a reminder that human activities alter and continue to affect the landscape.
